Song Dong’s solo project Guardian: Not To Be or To Be is currently taking place at Cai Jin Space, 798 Beijing, as the final artistic project of the space.

“By taking Guardian: Not To Be or To Be as the title, I seek to articulate the idea of art without boundaries. I divide this one-month period into two phases: from January 1 to 15, absence from the site, and from January 16 to 31, presence on the site. ‘Absence’ and ‘presence’ are placed side by side. The ‘nothingness’ of absence and the ‘somethingness’ of presence generate a temporal tension. During the first half of January, while I am absent, I will be in Paris realizing my solo exhibition "Objets divers et variés - 百货 (bǎihuò)" at Le Bon Marché. The ‘absence’ at Cai Jin Space in 798 during this time is an empty stretch of time, which is precisely where the value of time resides. …
