Works by Shang Yixin and Xie Molin are currently on view in the autumn group exhibition Ouyang River Basin Artists Exhibition at HOW Art Museum.
The exhibition regards the Ouyang River Basin as a cultural image permeating the artists’ practices, tracing the complex roots in which their works intertwine with regional culture, bloodline and genealogy, historical narratives, and individual experience. The exhibition also treats the Ouyang River as a cultural cross-section, examining the practice of “hometown” as a method within the history of contemporary Chinese art—questioning the enduring resonance of regional experience in contemporary contexts amid the multiple tensions between home and afar, memory and forgetting, departure and return.
