Liu Jianhua’s work Trace is currently presented in Dimensions: Contemporary Chinese Studio Crafts, a special exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
As the first exhibition in the United Kingdom to focus on contemporary Chinese studio crafts, Dimensions: Contemporary Chinese Studio Crafts explores, from a new perspective, how Chinese artists reinterpret the language of craft while continuing tradition, and innovate in their use of materials through experimental practices in ceramics, lacquer, metalwork, and other fields, opening up new dimensions of artistic expression. The exhibition presents over 80 works, nearly 50 of which are newly acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum, and focuses on contemporary and modern practitioners grounded in deep traditions. By building bridges between ancient techniques and contemporary creation, these artists give tradition new vitality and the possibility of personal expression.
